Biology in a Changing Climate

[c]

Biology in a Changing ClimateClimate change, including warming and changes in precipitation, are having important consequences to a wide range of natural ecosystems, crop production patterns, and disease patterns. Some of the effects of climate change have already led to substantial changes world-wide. Members of this research interest group are working on many of these issues.

We have access to regional and global data sets for both historical and forecast climate, and these are being used to estimate amount of biological change in various systems or species, consequences of change, and for forecasting further changes into future decades. It is increasingly clear that many changes have unexpected consequences beyond that being researched, and it is equally clear that there is scope for interaction amongst interested researchers for our mutual benefit.

This research interest group currently is composed of members spread roughly equally between Biological Science department on the main Warwick University site, and from WHRI in Wellesbourne. The intention is to meet regularly, as convenient, for research seminars and for discussions on how best to mutually enhance our research.

The convenor at present is Professor Charles Sheppard in Biological Sciences
