Scientific research, wherever it is carried out, shares common values and practices. It must be built on a respect for reliable and reproducible data; a sceptical approach which challenges both orthodoxy and the researcher’s own ideas; an abhorrence of the falsification or cherry picking of data; and a commitment to the pursuit of truth. Science can only succeed when it is grounded in integrity and ethical behaviour.
