Goran Rashid
Post-doc Researcher
goran2
Goran completed his PhD at the university of Warwick where he discovered a novel lignin-degrading enzyme (Mn-Superoxide dismutase from Sphingobacterium sp. T2). He subsequently worked as postdoctoral research fellow on NERC-funded project (In-situ resource recovery from waste repositories). Goran’s current project is focusing on enzymology of bacterial lignin degradation as a part of multi-partner project entitled “Zero Waste Ligno-Cellulosic Bio-Refinery”.
Victoria Ramos Sodre de Castro
Post-doc Researcher
VictoriaRamospic

Victoria received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Campinas and is enrolled in the Functional and Molecular Biology PhD Program of the same institution. Victoria has been awarded a BEPE-FAPESP fellowship to stay 1 year as a Visiting Postgraduate Research Student at the Department of Chemistry (University of Warwick), as part of her PhD training. Her work focuses on the genetic modification of Rhodococcus jostii RHA1 for obtention of high-value molecules from lignocellulose and lignin.

Awatif Alruwaili
PhD Student
Awatif is a Postgraduate Research student, enrolled in June 2019. She completed her master at Middle Tennessee State University, USA. She works on Lignin Degradation Accessory Enzyme from bacteria which could be applied to conversion of lignocellulose into biofuels and renewable aromatic chemicals.
Purwinda Iriani
PhD Student

Purwinda Iriani

Purwinda is a Postgraduate Research student, enrolled in September 2019. She works on bioconversion of brown coal into value-added compounds by using lignin-degrading enzymes and naphthalene-degrading bacteria.

Julia Fairbairn
PhD Student

Chris Fanitsios
PhD Student
chris

Chris is a graduate of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Ioannina. He pursued a MSc in Biochemistry, and his research was focused on studying the biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. A MIBTP scholarship gave him the chance to move to the UK and elaborate his PhD thesis. The aim of his PhD thesis is to elucidate the metabolic pathways by which oxidised lignin fragments are converted into monocyclic aromatics and to apply these new pathways to metabolic engineering.
