Tim Jones Group
The group's research is focused on controlling the growth and properties of a wide range of thin films, nanostructures and complex heterostructures, using both inorganic and organic semiconductor materials. The overall aim is to develop new types of structure with novel and well-defined functional properties (i.e. electronic, optical, magnetic or optoelectronic), and then to exploit them through the development of innovative device structures. Particular emphasis is placed on correlating thin film property with growth mechanism; the control of surface and interface properties; the development of multilayer structures and heterostructures with novel properties; and the fabrication and assessment of prototype device structures for applications in areas including solar cells, sensors and spintronics.
