Profile

Chemical engineer with a PhD. in chemistry, highly skilled in analysis of complex samples (proteins, oil and DNA-metal complexes) mainly by Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS, Bruker solariX), achieving sub-ppm mass accuracy. Experience in dissociation methods by mass spectrometry to achieve reaction sites and chemical structure identification. Proficient in analysis of spectra using a range of software packages. Background in implementation of ISO/IEC 17025 and good laboratory practices.

Education

2009-present University of Warwick, United Kingdom

PhD in chemistry, warwick centre for analytical science studentship, with Prof. Peter O’Connor. I studied the glyoxal-glycation binding site on peptides and proteins using an FT-ICR-MS. The resulting data is analyzed manually or by use of home-built MATLAB script.

1992-1999 National University of Colombia, Colombia

B.Sc. chemical engineering, project on production and quality control for the food industry.

Summary of Key Research Techniques

Ionization methods: Electrospray ionization (ESI), nano-electrospray ionization, atmospheric pressure photoionization (APPI), atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI), matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI).

Mass spectrometers used: FT-ICR, time of flight (TOF), ion trap, and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) mass spectrometers.

Chromatography methods: nano-liquid chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.

Dissociation methods: Electron capture dissociation (ECD), collisionally activated dissociation, electron transfer dissociation, double resonance-ECD, infrared multiphoton dissociation (IRMPD).

Software: MATLAB, DataAnalysis 4.0 (Bruker Daltonics), Origin, LateX, Amber and Gaussian.
