CIU Seminar November 2016

Seminar on Piezoelectric Materials and Devices and Applications

Wednesday 16th November 2015 - 13:00 to 16:30, L4, Science Concourse, University of Warwick

All Welcome! Please REGISTER HERE no later than Friday 11th November

The Session will start at 13:00 with a buffet lunch & exciting and interesting hands-on demonstrations in the Science Concourse Area followed by two presentations in L4.

Uncovering the Mystery behind Piezo

Presented by: Dr. Timo Scholehwar from Physik Instrumente World Class precision & ultra-precsion motor and positioning provider.

  • Sometimes described as a black art, piezo ceramic material is widely used in ultrasonic technology. But what is piezo ceramic material; how is it made; how does it work and why is it now used in everything from energy harvesting to medical imaging and from flow metering to haptic feedback?

Ultrasonic Piezoelectric Sensors for Flow Applications

Presented by: Dr. Nishal Ramadas, Elster (now part of Honeywell) a leading global provider of gas, electrcity & water meters and related communications, networking and software solutions.

  • Presentation Summary: Application specific design is essential for successful and cost effective development of piezoelectric devices for a given application. This talk provides an overview of ultrasonic flow measurement of gas – review some of the challenges specific to this industry and how to go about designing a device for this application area.
