High Performance Computing

The Centre is equipped with substantial large-scale high performance computing resources. Current capabilities include:

  • A 3100 core high bandwidth, low latency Linux cluster of 2.66 GHz Intel "Westmere" cores based on 2 sockets and 12 cores per node, QLogic TrueScale interconnect and multi-terabyte General Parallel File System (GPFS).
  • A 960 core high bandwidth, low latency Linux cluster of 3 GHz Intel Xeon "Woodcrest" cores based on 240 x 2-way dual core nodes, 1.92 TB of RAM and QLogic InfiniPath interconnect and multi-terabyte General Parallel File System (GPFS).
  • A Cluster of Workstations (COW) with 600+ cores running Linux available for task-farming (see Desktop Computing below).

Desktop Computing

The Centre runs a centrally-managed network of GNU/Linux workstations designed to provide a scientific and technical computing environment and task-farming capabilities on the desktop. Information on accessing and using this resource is available (Warwick Sign-on required).
