CSC signs MoU with Beijing Computational Science Research Center (CSRC)

On March 2016, a new Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Beijing Computational Science Research Center (CSRC) and the Centre for Scientific Computing at the University of Warwick, UK.

 

Both parties agreed to explore topics of mutual interest in research, teaching and facilities management in scientific computing and computational science, such as simulation and modelling of natural phenomena, computational engineering, high-performance computing, algorithms and software engineering.

 

CSRC is a multidisciplinary fundamental research organization under the auspices of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP). Established in August 2009, CSRC positions itself as a center of excellence in computational science research addressing current and critical issues in multidisciplinary areas of Mathematics, Mechanics, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Computational Science. CSRC supports the development and implementation of grand challenges projects in natural science and engineering where computational modeling and simulation play a key role. CSRC also encourages its members to engage in the development of computational algorithms and software.

Multiscale Methods for Improved Interatomic Potentials

## Centre for Scientific Computing Discussion Session - 22nd June 2016

Multiscale materials modelling has enjoyed considerable progress in recent years, with practitioners of both concurrent and hierarchical approaches increasingly moving from method development through to simulations that enable predictions and comparison with experiment.

To narrow the focus, in this CSC discussion session, we will specifically talk about how multiscale materials modelling can be used to produce improved interatomic potentials and force fields. This will be interpreted in a broad sense, to include, e.g.:

- Parameterising force fields from density functional theory

- Fitting tight binding hopping integrals for transport calculations

- Machine learning for force fields and potentials

- How mathematical analysis of DFT could help produce improved potentials

The UK Many-Core Computing Conference is an informal day of talks spanning the whole landscape of accelerated, heterogeneous and many-core computing.

The goal of the event is to develop and bring together the UK community of developers, both industrial and academic. Previous meetings have taken place at the University of Cambridge (2010 and 2014), University of Oxford (2009 and 2013), Imperial College (2011) and the University of Bristol (2012). These meetings regularly attract 100 participants and have proved to be invaluable opportunities to meet colleagues and swap stories of many-core successes and challenges.
