Fees and Financial Assistance

The complete and official information on fees and financial assistance is found on the University web site. Here we provide useful links to this information together with some additional explanation.

Fees

The current fees can be found here.

The fees for the MSc are found under the heading of (lab-based) Taught Courses. The fees for the PhD are found under (lab-based) Research Degrees. MSc/PhD candidates pay MSc fees in their first year.

Financial Assistance

The list of Funding opportunities offered by the University can be found here.

If you are an overseas student, you are strongly encouraged to inquire about funding through your home country.

In practice the following types of financial assistance are available for MSc/PhD and PhD candidates in Mathematics/Interdisciplinary Mathematics. Note that the demand for financial support is high and therefore very competitive.

  • Doctoral Training Account (DTA) stipends

The CSC, through its participating departments, can use the Research Councils (EPSRC) doctoral training account funding scheme. This covers University fees, maintenance and some travel to mathematical conferences/meetings for UK students. EU students are eligible, but no maintenance is available.

  • EPSRC Studentships (UK only)

The CSC has a small number of studentships available which cover University fees, maintenance and some travel to mathematical conferences/meetings.

Awards are offered for three years in the first instance with funding for a fourth year available to the best students.

The CSC regards teaching as a valuable part of the training of postgraduate students and specific training for teaching is provided. Under normal circumstances the CSC expects EPSRC funded PhD students, in return for a modest additional stipend, to take undergraduate supervisions (small classes), support classes, and to get involved in other teaching-related activities.

  • EPSRC Studentships (EU only)

The CSC has a small number of studentships available which cover University fees and some travel to mathematical conferences/meetings. No maintenance is available. However all succesful EU applicants will automatically be considered for special university programs such as the Mathematics Institute Fellowships (see below).
