EPSRC-sponsored HEC MSc Training
|
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council has chosen the CSC as one of two national facilities at which MSc level training for high-end computing (HEC) will be taught and funded. Over the next 4 years, PhD students from institutions all across the UK will come to the CSC to receive training in high-end scientific computing. The course is be part of CSC's teaching acitivities leading to a nationally accredited MSc in Scientific Computing. Students follow a four-year PhD programme, with at least 25% of their time spent on training modules at one of the centres. At the end of the programme, students will have a PhD and a Masters in Computational Science and Engineering. Some feedback from prospective employers: We have recently had a student who did the MSc .. completing his PhD and we would like more students who have come through this type of route. Thanks, Kenneth J. Badcock, Professor of Computational Aerodynamics, University of Liverpool Standard Course PlanThe content of the course is identical to CSC's taught-MSc, but courses will be taken distributed over the 4 years of the programme. 1st year, term 3 (Summer term)2nd year, term 2 (spring term)
3rd year, term 1 (Autumn term)
Concentrated Course PlanIf supervisors find it useful, CSC also offers the possibility for HEC students to attend the course in a streamlined form with year 1 providing a very condensed form of training in 2 terms and years 2 and 3 mostly concentrating on the project work. Please contact FundingFunding for the four-year PhD studentships is available through EPSRC's responsive mode as project studentships on research grants. A call for proposals was issued for studentships starting in 2005 to help establish the training centres, but from now applications can only be made through responsive mode. Researchers should start applying now for studentships beginning in October 2006. Further information - including background, details of how to apply and contacts for the training centres - can be obtained directly from EPSRC here.
