Performance for Peer-to-Peer Systems
P4P2P 2008: Performance for Peers WorkshopMay 22nd-23rd, 2008University of Warwick
About the WorkshopPeer-to-peer systems create new challenges in the familiar context of performance-based adaptation: measurement, decision, and implementation processes must be decentralized because no node has a view of the entire system. Instead, locally decided changes based on local measurements must be relied upon. A major theme is the design of highly decentralized systems is the question of what degree of structure such systems should contain. Further, should structure be pre-imposed or discovered at runtime. Answering such questions requires being able to measure system performance, and defining precise definitions of the performance requirements of intended applications. Measuring performance is a thus pre-requisite to building adaptive or self-organizing systems.
About the University of WarwickAmong UK universities, Warwick is a unique, and uniquely successful, institution. Despite its relative youth – it was founded in the mid-1960s – it is now one of the UK’s leading universities, with an acknowledged reputation for excellence in research and teaching, for innovation and for links with business and industry. In the last government Research Assessment Exercise, Warwick was rated fifth in the UK for research excellence; in the media league tables, it has consistently maintained its position in the UK's Top Ten Universities. OrganisationThis workshop is sponsored in part by the UK Engineering and Physical Science Research Council grant number EP/F000936/1. We are also grateful to Warwick Conferences for their support towards this event. The University of Warwick campus was recently voted the best campus in the UK. It’s a lively, cosmopolitan place with its own shops, banks, bars and restaurants. It is an exciting place to live and work with everything you could need close at hand including theatres, cinemas, sports facilities and excellent on-site accommodation for all workshop attendees.
