    RESEARCH PROFILE

The research in the High Performance Systems Group is focused on the analysis and performance evaluation of software/systems combinations. In particular we are developing predictive techniques capable of determining the detailed execution characteristics and resource use of arbitrary industrial strength applications running on large and distributed machines prior to execution. Recently these have been used for systems optimisation and resource scheduling in cluster, multi-cluster, Grid and other HPC environments. Much of the work has been focused on computationally intense applications of interest to the science and engineering community. In a joint undertaking with IBM's Thomas Watson Research Laboratories in New York we are also actively applying these techniques to e-Business systems. The Group's work has been funded by the EPSRC, the DTI, and the MOD in the UK, the EU Research Programme, and DARPA, the US Navy, IBM and NASA in the USA
