Fabian Fogarty
I graduated in 2015 with a MChem degree from the University of Hull. At the beginning of my final year I did not intend to continue studying. However, that changed during my final year as I really enjoyed the research during my Master's. I decided to pursue a PhD in the same area as my master’s project, surfactant and colloid science. During my search for an appropriate project I stumbled upon the DST CDT and found the project in question very interesting but I was still hesitant as it was not what I had planned. Eventually I also had another offer from Bristol University and from UCL. Deciding which project to choose was one of the hardest decisions of my life, but I don’t regret it one bit. I chose the CDT for many reasons. The project itself is very interesting and innovative, not to mention the fact that I get to experience and research at four excellent Universities instead of just one. Having now started my PhD, I appreciate how valuable the Master's has been in providing an overview of the field, in particular, the two research projects were very useful and provided me with many of the practical skills I need in my day to day work.
