Civil and Mechanical Division - Research Groups
The major areas of research are
Appropriate Technology and Development Studies
(water supply, humanitarian de-mining, building materials, non-motorised vehicles and renewable energy)
Civil Engineering (computational mechanics, geotechnical engineering, engineering materials and structural engineering)
Fluid Dynamics and Thermodynamics (low including transition over flexible surfaces, rotating flows, industrial computational fluid dynamics and energy research)
Optical Engineering
(measurements using holography and particle image velocimetry)
Precision Engineering and Materials (metrology and metrological instruments, sub-micrometre positioning and control, characterizing the surface regions of materials, and non-conventional materials for microsystems technology.
The CMD Seminar Series: The CMD Seminar Series combines the Fluid Dynamics Research Centre Seminars and the Civil Group Seminars into a continuing series of Wednesday afternoon seminars. The series includes internationally renowned experts, short inaugural presentations from new staff and postgraduate colloquia.
