    Class 2

    Class 2 2012

    Class 2
is a 'design only' competition where students are required to present a design, a cost and sustainability report and a business presentation. This has proved to very effective in developing the skills of future 4th year MEng Group project teams. The Class 2 team is made up entirely from volunteers and carries no credit towards the degree....it is an extra-curricular activity. The team has comprised mainly 3rd year students but there is no reason why 2nd year or 1st year students cannot get involved. Involvement in Class 2 does not guarantee a place on the Class 1 team but generally, students who are involved tend to form the Class 1 team. The time commitment is considerable, requiring not just the creation of an engineered design using CAD and CAE, but also the creation of a cost report, a design report and a business presentation. The team needs to be well organised, disciplined and self-motivated. We will also support you throughout the year although our main focus will be on the Class 1 team.

In 2012, it is intended that as well as competing in Class 2, the team will take on some activities to support the Class 1 team. The Class 1 entry is very challenging and involvement of the class 2 team will take some pressure off, allowing them to focus on the car preparation in the run up to the event in July. This will also facilitate more effective knowledge transfer between the teams so that lessons are learned and mistakes not repeated the following year. Activities will involve managing the competition logistics, camping and catering arrangements, helping with sponsorship activities and general support to the class 1 team.
