Theodore Karavasilis
Background
Dr Karavasilis holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering (2002), MSc in Structural Engineering (2004) and PhD in Seismic Design of Steel Structures (2007) from the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Patras (Greece). He then served as Post-Doctoral Researcher (2007-2009) in the ATLSS Center of Lehigh University (USA) and as Dept. Lecturer in Civil Engineering (2010-2011) in the Department of Engineering Science of the University of Oxford. He was appointed Assistant Professor in Structural Engineering in the School of Engineering of the University of Warwick in 2011. He is a Visiting Academic Fellow of the Department of Engineering Science of the University of Oxford. He conducts integrated experimental and analytical research on the development of resilient minimal-damage structural systems for multi-hazard mitigation. His expertise includes steel structures design, earthquake engineering, self-centering systems, smart materials and devices (viscous, elastomer and magneto-rheological dampers); nonlinear finite element implementation; and real-time hybrid testing. He is the author of 20 Journal papers, 40 conference papers and four book chapters.
