How to apply
If you would like to apply for PhD studies at Civil Research Group, please follow instructions for online application on the School of Engineering website. In general, to complete the application you will need to fill in an online application form, write a research proposal you would like to work on and name a potential supervisor. You also have to upload the transcripts of your qualifications and your English certificate (if applicable) and name two referees who will be contacted by the University to provide a reference letter for you.
Research areas of interest
You can contact any academic member of our group for consultation about the projects you are interested in. There is a provisional list of research projects currently on offer. The list is not exhaustive, so should you be interested in any other research topic within the remit of our group, we would like to hear from you and discuss your interests.
It is always a very good idea to write a research project proposal (which could be either a further elaboration of currently offered topics or a suggestion of a new topic), and send this info to a potential supervisor. This proposal is your chance to demonstate level of competence requried for PhD studies, and it will provide very good basis for further discussion.
Funding opportunities
If you are looking for a scholarship to help cover tuition fees and living expenses, you are advised to look at the Graduate School's information about funding opportunities available from both the University of Warwick and external sources. It is necessary, however, to bear in mind that scholarship awards are highly competitive, with number of applications exceeding several times the number of awards available. It would be ideal if you could investigate alternative sources of funding as well, and not rely solely upon success in the competitions for scholarships. If you have secured some funding support for your studies from industrial sources you are advised to contact a potential academic supervisor from our research group and discuss if further opportunities for co-funding your studies are available.
