    RESEARCH PROFILE

    Research activities

Peter has more than 20 years of research experience in the application of systems modelling and control techniques to automotive systems. All of this work has been carried out in collaboration with automotive companies and much has involved funding from EPSRC and industry sources. His research interests embrace automotive chassis systems, powertrain systems and electronic systems and, currently, he is supervising a team of 6 doctoral research students working in these areas.

Peter is also a member of the International Automotive Research Centre at the University of Warwick, where he provides academic leadership for a team of 7 research staff who are working on applications of systems engineering techniques to the integration of complex electrical, electronic and software systems in premium automobiles.

    BACKGROUND

Peter Jones was appointed to the academic staff of the School of Engineering in 1985. His expertise is in the discipline of systems engineering, in particular engineering applications of systems modelling and control techniques.

    Teaching responsibilities

Peter has teaching responsibilities that involve the general areas of engineering mathematics and computing, and the specialist areas of systems modelling and control systems. He is Course Leader for the undergraduate degrees in Systems Engineering and Electrical Engineering, and is a member of the Undergraduate Degrees Committee.

    Administrative responsibilities

Peter is a Deputy Head of the Division of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the Chair of the School of Engineering IT Committee and a member of the Faculty of Science IT Committee.

    Professional activities

Peter is a member of the executive team for the IET Professional Network on Automotive and Road Transport Systems, the IFAC Technical Committee on Automotive Control and the Organising Committee for the 3rd IET Automotive Electronics Conference, to be held in Coventry in June 2007. He was a member of the International Scientific Committee for the 8th International Symposium on Advanced Vehicle Control, held in Taipei in August 2006, and the International Programme Committee for the 1st IFAC Symposium on Advances in Automotive Control, held in Salerno in April 2004.

Peter participated in the the British Midlands Automotive Research and Development Seminars, held in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan, in October 2005, where he lectured on the topic of Automotive Systems Engineering Research at the University of Warwick, and the Sterling Group lecture tour delegation to Singapore and Malaysia in March 2005, where he lectured on the topic of Automotive Electronic Systems.
