The Group Blog

Here is a place to keep track of what work we are all doing so try and keep it updated so we know where were up to and can also check any papers etc that someone might of already read.

Its really simple to use and if we keep the tags up to date then we can also filter for personal blogs too.

Book For Lit Review

Found a good book in Google Books that we could all use for the Lit Review. I found it quite useful, so have a look for yourself and see what you think.

Open Day Poster Part

I've put the document with my bit in the drop box. There are a few nice colour pictures in there as well.

DD Part For Presentation

Hope all is well, here is my part for the poster:

What I Have Done:

Modelled a one dimensional representation of a basic human lung, assuming a symmetrical lung with laminar fluid flow and taking into account resistance to airflow.

Most of the researcch came from Journals written by Mauroy.

What I Plan To Do:

Improve the one dimensional model to take into account the effects of pulmonary elasticity, assymetry and turbulent fluid flow.

With more research the model can be further developed so users can isolate specific pathways through the lung and find useful data regarding the pathway.

ALSO I could provide graphs representing data from the current 1-D model. Possibly how reynolds number changes with generation? Let me know what you guys think.

Cheers,

Dhillon

Charlie Work Update

Since the meeting with Dr. Chung on the 8th of November I have been working on the algorithm for generating a visualisation of the 1D lung model. This has included reading more papers and creating a document outlining the step by step functionality of the algorithm. This document includes formulas, their limits, and strategies for data manipulation.

Paper to be looked at before Sunday for the 1D modelling team

Must at least look at this before sunday.

Charlie if you could have a proper read through it as it has allot of refferences since published think it could be the one if you know what i mean...

Dhillon not at important but may discuss how the angle changes effect the 1D model you are constructing

Meeting Agenda for 07/11/11

This is the outline for the presentation on 07/11/11. Talking to group members we decided that a powerpoint presentation wasn't really appropriate at this stage, we should just go through the documents and research carried out in a structured way. If you have any amendments to make to this or comments post above.

1D model generation

An interesting way of generating the 1D model using lung regions or 'lobes' and the 3D model as well as a volume filling algorithm.

Example Project report

I have had talks with a member of last years virtual health project. He has agreed to provide us with their group report and any other useful information.

I should have a copy of their report by the end of the week.

DropBox Now Up and Running

The DropBox is now running if people could start uploading reference papers etc to it would make our lives allot easier in the future.

For more info see the menu option on the right hand side.

Article and work update

A short but interesting article for if we look into particle deposition in the lungs. It compares how realistic the predictions from a Wiebel model and a CT-scan model in steady and time-dependant flow conditions.

I'm the majority of the way through the CFD tutorials.

Computational Fluid Dynamics Paper

First couple of pages are a must read for anyone trying to get to grips with what exactly we are doing, also the benefits and how we should go about achieving the goal.

There are also some good references on the actual tree plotting method that we should probably have a look at.

Describes both the 1D and 3D models that we should be using
