West Midlands Deans of Engineering Group

Employer Engagement

The Deans within the alliance have agreed for Employer Engagement to be one of their key priorities to work on collaboratively. This recognises the importance of Employers to Engineering & Technology Faculties within the Midlands region, and the need for our local universities to improve support for them. This has never been so important as now during these difficult economic times.

Sandy Leitch's views have been globally accepted by both the government and education, that we are lagging leading economies with our skills base, and he seeks for the UK workforce to have world class skills by 2020. As most of those needing to extend their skills (by 2020) are currently in employement, this will require innovative solutions to be developed, to deliver learning more flexibly and to meet their specific needs. The Government also seeks for the employer and the individual to fund this rather than relying on government sources.
