The Forum for Science and Technology in Medicine

The Forum for Science and Technology in Medicine

The Forum for Science and Technology in Medicine acts as a focus for multi-disciplinary medically related scientific research within the University of Warwick.

Medical research is in the main of an ‘applied biological’ nature. However, to meet the many challenges present in the healthcare sector, healthcare professionals will require new diagnostic and therapeutic tools and many of these will come from collaborative research involving engineering, the physical sciences and the more theoretical and computational aspects of the biological sciences.

Current projects within the University involve partnerships between Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.

  • Biomechanics
  • Cardio-respiratory modelling
  • Advanced sensors
  • Ophthalmic
  • Tissue characteristation
  • Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics
  • Epidemiological modelling
  • Cell modelling

In addition to acting as a focus, the Forum aims to encourage new multi-disciplinary research by actively promoting collaborative research and helps facilitate new research endeavours.

The Forum maintains excellent links with researchers in the local hospitals including the Walsgrave and Coventry & Warwickshire Hospitals in Coventry which are part of the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, and the Leamington Rehabilitation Hospital.

The academic staff affiliated to the Forum for Science and Technology in Medicine come from across the University.
