Research Interests
The lab performs a combination of basic and applied research towards understanding plant development, and translating these findings into agricultural technologies.
Active areas of research include:

Investigating how plants perceive and use signals from the environment to control their growth.

Understanding the genetic basis of seed quality and vigour.

Improving the nutritional properties of plant-based protein sources.
Key findings are being translated into crop species using CRISPR-based gene editing technologies.
Research: Technical Summary
The lab undertakes a combination of basic and applied research towards understanding the biological and agronomic basis of plant performance.
Key areas of interest include understanding the basis of plant growth in response to the environment, improvement of seed quality and seedling establishment, and the nutritional enhancement of plant-based protein.
An interdisciplinary and integrative approach is taken towards this, bringing together molecular genetics, physiology, quantitative 3D image analysis, network science, protein structural modeling and artificial intelligence.
The advent of CRISPR-mediated gene editing technologies enables findings to be translated into crop plants, providing direct solutions to key societal and economic challenges.
