Dr Judith Brown
Current role
I work in the School of Life Sciences, where I design and develop software for epidemiological research projects. My work includes database design, web design, data manipulation and visualization and animation.

I am currently developing a Geographical Information System for visualizing the spread of veterinary epidemics, as part of the InFER project in collaboration with members of the Department of Statistics. This interactive web-based tool is for use by policy makers during an infectious veterinary disease outbreak, to help visualise complex statistical data in order to support them in optimising their disease control strategy given limited resources.

Previous experience
Prior to working as a software developer, I carried out research into the structure-function relationships and interactions of extracellular matrix proteins at the Max-Planck Institute for Biochemistry near Munich, Germany, as well as spending a few months as a visiting researcher at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany.
I also worked for several years as a postdoctoral researcher in the Advanced Drug Delivery Research Unit of Ciba-GEIGY Pharmaceuticals (now Novartis) in Horsham, UK, investigating the use of monoclonal antibodies as drug targeting vectors.
