    RESEARCH PROFILE

Agricultural weeds represent the ecological and evolutionary response of plants to the challenges and opportunities presented by human crop cultivation. Sustainable weed management practices can only be advocated when the ecological and evolutionary factors underpinning weed adaptation, establishment and persistence are fully understood. Studying these processes makes weedy plants excellent models to examine the impacts of human activity on plant ecological and evolutionary processes in the context of a major threat to global food security. Current research within the group is focused on:

  • The evolutionary ecology of herbicide resistance in grass weeds
  • Experimental evolution of resistance to herbicides in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
  • Weed ecology and life history evolution
  • Climate change impacts on arable plants and crop-weed interactions
