Research interests
My work with the Allaby Research Group has focused on molecular genetics and genomics of archaeobotanical samples. My research activities in recent years have included archaeogenomic species identification of cotton samples from Egypt and Peru and characterisation of drought tolerance mechanisms in a 2000 year old landrace of Egyptian barley.
My responsibilities cover everything from DNA extraction to genomic analysis. Archaeogenomics and my previous molecular biology experience in strawberry have meant I have become adept at nucleic acid extraction from recalcitrant tissues.
Biography
PhD Agricultural Science, The University of Adelaide
B Ag Sc (Hons) Plant Breeding, The University of Adelaide
My previous research activities have included:
- Arachaeogenetics of Cotton and Barley.
- Epidemiological studies of powdery mildew on South Australian strawberry crops.
- Calcium and potassium fertilisation studies of Strawberry cultivars, Selva and Aromas.
- Genetics of resistance of Vicia faba to Ascochyta fabae.
