Best practice to control footrot
and scald in sheep

Field management

  • Following whole flock treatments, always ensure the flock moves to a field that has been free from livestock for two weeks
  • Ensure you have a spare isolation field for sheep with footrot or scald
  • Place water troughs in well drained areas and avoid spillage
  • Move feeding troughs, creep feeders and hay/silage racks regularly to avoid poaching the ground
  • Avoid the regular use of gateways, etc. by the sheep
  • Avoid grazing sheep on fields on which dung has recently been spread
