We all have an impact on the environment. Fundamental research on factors that influence the environment have a high priority. Key areas of at the School of Life Sciences include biodiversity and climate change. Researchers are looking to improve our knowledge of the microbial communities around us in the sea and in the soil. These microbes have important roles in the carbon, nitrogen and sulphur cycles.

We are also looking at the impact of climate change on crop production and how to improve pest management systems.
