    Social Encounter Survey

    We need your help...

We do not fully understand how diseases spread, and this makes it harder to control new outbreaks.

We are launching a nationwide survey to better predict and control disease spread. For this survey to succeed we need a very large number of people to participate.

The success of the survey relies on media coverage and endorsement by role-models…

…this is why we need your help.

    How you can help...

We’d like to use your social contact patterns as a motivating example.

All you need to do is...

count the (approximate) number of people you meet in a day

group these as contacts at “Home”, “Work” and “Other”

email these three numbers to M.J.Keeling@warwick.ac.uk, ideally including an electronic photo of yourself

We will then email you back the final image (similar to the existing samples) for your approval.

    Further details...

Your participation is being used to motivate the general public - not as part of the full survey. If you don't know the precise numbers, we would be happy with an estimate.

We are interested in the number of people you meet face-to-face in one day (i.e. only within 10 feet/3m, don’t include audiences etc.).

We will make it clear that these numbers represent a single snapshot, not necessarily a typical day for you.

We would be happy to discuss any of these details with you by phone, email or in person, and will always try to accommodate your wishes. Contact Professor Matt Keeling.

Read about the science behind the project on our scientific web page.
