Bacteria can be found all around us and it is important that we understand their role in the environment. Researchers at the School of Life Sciences are investigating metabolic pathways, community structures, survival mechanisms and microbial ecology over a wide range of microbes found in the soil and the sea. |
| Dr Gary Bending | Microbial diversity in soils, mycorrhizas |
| Dr Yin Chen | Amine metabolism in microorganisms |
| Dr Paul Norris | Characterisation of iron- and sulfur-oxidising microorganisms |
| Dr Kevin Purdy | Microbial ecology |
| Professor David Scanlan | Marine microbiology |
| Dr Hendrik Schäfer | Microbial sulfur cycling in oceans and soils |
| Professor Elizabeth Wellington | Understanding the ecological roles for specific bacterial activities, including antibiotic production |
The School also hosts an Environmental Microbiology Seminar Series every Thursday during term.
