Genetic Resources Unit Documentation
Data are stored in MS Access files defined as passport, stock control and characterization data in formats agreed by the European Co-operative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR).
For crop specific data we follow the descriptor formats and field content of either Bioversity International or the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) depending on the crop. Information is available, upon request or can be accessed via the ECPGR European crop databases. The Genetic Resources Unit maintains a European crop database as UK (Defra) inputs-in-kind to the ECPGR:
The European Umbellifer Database
EUDB has passport data for nine umbellifer genera including Anethum (dill), Apium (celery), Carum (caraway), Chaerophyllum (chervil), Coriandrum (coriander), Daucus (carrot), Foeniculum (fennel), Pastinaca (parsnip) and Petroselinum (parsley). These European databases are available currently as downloadable files in Excel or Access formats.
GRU data for other crops are included in the ECPGR crop databases, for example, Brassica and lettuce data are accessible via the European Brassica Database (Bras-EDB) and the International Lactuca Database maintained by the Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands.
