    Chaotic Properties of Dynamical Systems:
Dimension Theory, Thermodynamic Formalism and Non-Uniformly Hyperbolic Dynamics

Organisers: Dan Thompson and Thomas Jordan

    Monday 20th August – Friday 24th August 2007

Thanks to all the speakers and participants who made this event a success. Some notes from the conference are available below.

This conference, supported by the University of Warwick ASSEC (American Staff and Student Exchange) Committee and the London Mathematical Society, will bring emminent experts in Dynamical Systems and Ergodic Theory currently working in the USA to Warwick. One of the aims of the conference is to develop links between dynamical systems researchers from the UK and EU with the USA. The emphasis is particularly on young researchers and postgraduates and the programme will reflect this. The topics covered will include dimension theory, thermodynamic formalism and hyperbolic dynamics.

    Mini Courses
We are pleased to announce that our two visiting speakers from the USA who will be giving mini-courses are

Boris Solomyak (Washington) (Topic: Bernoulli convolutions and their random analogs)

Mariusz Urbanski (North Texas) (Topic: Conformal infinite iterated function systems)

They will each give a three one hour lectures. Unfortunately Dmitry Dolgopyat has has to cancel.

    Confirmed Speakers

    Karoly Simon (Budapest)

    Peter Raith (Vienna)

Jens Marklof (Bristol) (Title: The Boltzmann-Grad Limit of the periodic Lorentz gas)

Henk Bruin (Surrey) (Title: Equilibrium states for non-uniformly hyperbolic interval maps)

Richard Sharp (Manchester) (Title: Stretch and curl for automorphisms of free groups)

    Oliver Jenkinson (Queen Mary)

Marc Kessebohmer (Bremen) (Title: Fractal analysis for sets of non-differentiability of Minkowski's question mark function)

Mark Holland (Exeter) (Title: Extreme value theory in dynamical systems)

    Michal Rams (Warsaw)

Ian Melbourne (Surrey) (Title: Decay of correlations for the infinite horizon Lorentz gas)

    Nikita Sidorov (Manchester)

    Peter Walters (Warwick)

    Roland Zweimuller (Vienna)

There will also be short talks by postgraduates.

Support for U.S., U.K. and Irish Graduate Students:

We have some funds available to support visiting postgraduates from the USA, United Kingdom and Ireland. If you would like to apply for this, please contact danielt@maths.warwick.ac.uk.
