Local scale-invariance and ageing phenomena: where do we stand ?

Abstract

Ageing phenomena are widely known in may statistical systems and are characterised by slow, non-exponential relaxation, breaking of time-translation-invariance and dynamical scaling. We shall review the foundations of proposed generalisations of the naturally occuring dynamical scaling to a local scale-invariance. The ingredients required for such an extension will be presented and particular emphasis will be given to the reduction of stochastic Langevin equations to symmetries of deterministic partial differential equations. Tests and examples will be presented.
