    Erasmus Program

This page is for outgoing Warwick students interested in going abroad. Here are information for incoming students coming to Warwick with the Erasmus program.

    Studying abroad

The standard program is Erasmus, that allows students from Warwick to spend a year at selected universities in Europe. For their year abroad, Erasmus students pay half the tuition fees to the University of Warwick and nothing to the host institution. They remain registered at Warwick whilst they are abroad and, as such, are entitled to the same level of financial help from their LEAs as for the other years. In addition, they receive an Erasmus grant which contributes toward their travel and living expenses abroad. To qualify to be an Erasmus student, you need to be an EU or an EEA national. There are two options to this program.

    • Intercalated Year (G101): Open to students with at least a good 2.1 mark. The year abroad does not really count, and you resume your studies in Warwick with the 3rd year, leading to the BSc degree from Warwick University.
    • MMath with Intercalated Year (G105): Open to students in four-year degree course with at least a good 2.1 mark. The year abroad does not really count, and you resume your studies in Warwick with the 3rd year, receiving the MMath degree from Warwick University after two more years.
    • MMath with Study in Europe (G106): Open to students in four-year degree course with good marks. The year abroad is the 3rd year of studies, and it counts like Year 3 in Warwick. You resume your studies in Warwick with the 4th year; you must take the 4th year project plus at least 84 CATS of MA4 modules. This leads to the MMath degree from Warwick University.

Here are the relevant course regulations. The above programs are open to students enrolled in G100 and G103 only. There are further exchange programs open to other students, but they are run by the partner departments: Mathematics and Business Studies (with Intercalated Year) (G1N2), Mathematics and Economics (with Intercalated Year) (GL12), and Mathematics and Philosophy (with Intercalated Year) (GV18).

Erasmus exchanges are only possible with universities that have an official link with the Department of Mathematics, and there are strict restrictions on the number of students sent to each university. Universities with existing links with Warwick are:

    Belgium: Université Libre de Bruxelles

France: Grenoble, École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, Paris VI, Paris VII, Strasbourg I. (Bruxelles and Geneva are also French speaking!)

Germany: Augsburg, TU Berlin, Bonn, Bremen, Göttingen, Kaiserslautern, München. (Bern is also German speaking!)

    Italy: Padova

    Malta: Malta

    The Netherlands: Groningen

    Portugal: Lisbon, Porto

Spain: Barcelona, Madrid Autonoma, Madrid UC, Sevilla

    Switzerland: Bern, Geneva

NB: Teaching is in English in Kaiserslautern.

Read about the experiences of former students. There is also a facebook page for Erasmus mathematics students.

If you are interested in going abroad: please send a short email before 12 November to Angela Galagher. Mention your preferred university or country. You will be invited in the Erasmus party to be held in the middle of November.

    Calendar

    • 17 November 2011: Erasmus party, 17:00 in mathematics common room. Prospective Erasmus students will have a chance to meet returning Erasmus students, Erasmus students currently in Warwick. A good opportunity to ask many questions. (By invitation only.)
    • 27 November 2011: first deadline for applications, for a leave in the academic year 2011-2012. Applications are accepted afterwards, but the choice of destinations progressively decreases. Decisions to be announced before Christmas.
    • First two weeks of Term 2: decide the final course of study.
    • 18 January 2012: last deadline for applications for a leave in the academic year 2011-2012. Contact the coordinator for the list of remaining open links.

For further questions, please contact Daniel Ueltschi, the Erasmus coordinator in the Department of Mathematics.
