    Kenilworth Castle, English Heritage

    Kenilworth Castle is almost on our doorstep, a pleasant walk across the fields behind the Cryfield Sport Fields (on the edge of Warwick University Campus). OS Grid Reference SP278722 (see map by Streetmap.co.uk).

    The fields in the foreground above would originally have been under a great lake - said to have covered 111 acres in 1266. You can see an old map of the castle from Charles Oman's 1926 work, Castles, reproduced below rotated to have north at the top:
