Funding
Funding information for UK, EU and Overseas (Non-European Union) applicants is shown below.
The Carl Blakey Scholarship of at least £1000 is also available for applicants to the MSc in Mathematical Biology and Biophysical Chemistry who have not obtained full funding.
UK Students
A number of fully-funded EPRSC studentships are available for UK applicants:
- Payment of academic fees
- Maintenance stipend (£14,000 tax-free for full-time award holders in 2012/2013)
The package includes access to all the facilities you will need, a high-spec laptop, office and laboratory space and a generous expense package.
EU Applicants
EU students are not currently eligible for full EPSRC scholarships. However, MOAC has a limited number of stipends to give away that will cover the cost of your tuition fees.
Also see the European Scholarship Database for further funding opportunities.
Overseas Application (Non-European Union)
No grants are available from Research Councils (i.e. EPSRC, BBSRC, etc) for overseas students.
Overseas students can apply for one of the grants available from the British Council or from the International Office at Warwick.
Also see Warwick Postgraduate Research Fellowship pages and the European Scholarship Database.
Funding may also be available from your own government and Ministry of Education. They generally have good scholarships for students that wish to pursue further eduaction.
For most of the scholarships one would have to apply at least 6 months in advance. This means you might have to fund yourself at least for the first year.
The Carl Blakey Scholarship
The Carl Blakey Scholarship was established by graduates and current students of the MOAC programme to allow more students to benefit from it. Carl Blakey was a student on the MOAC programme who died in 2009.
Applicants to the MSc in Mathematical Biology and Biophysical Chemistry who have not obtained full funding (e.g. as defined by the EPSRC minimum stipend) from any other source may apply for support from the Carl Blakey Scholarship. Students who are recipients of a fees-only scholarship may apply. The value of the scholarship is variable but at least £1000.
Applications may be submitted electronically or by post to the MOAC director by 31st July 2012 for 2012 entry. The application is by letter with a supporting statement (maximum of 300 words). The sole criterion for the scholarship is academic excellence as evidenced both from the scholarship application and the candidate's application to the MSc in Mathematical Biology and Biophysical Chemistry. Further details may be obtained from Alison Rodger or Nikola Chmel.
Notification of success or otherwise of the applicant will be provided by email within 14 days of closing. The decisions will be made by the Directors of the MOAC MSc and PhD programmes. Their decision is final and there is no right of appeal.
