Royal Astronomical Society - Grants for studies in astronomy and geophysics
The Royal Astronomical Society invites applications for its grants for studies. These support research or study in any area of astronomy or geophysics. Eligible activities include the following:
•study or research projects;
•undergraduate bursaries;
•educational projects;
•activities related to the history of astronomy and geophysics;
•purchase of temporary help for a particular task;
•support of the applicant or others for a research or educational purpose, including research overseas;
•purchase of instruments;
•development of instrumentation for astronomy or geophysics;
•support of meetings;
•travel to conferences or expeditions.
Any member of the society may apply. Applications are particularly encouraged from applicants ineligible for grants from the research councils or equivalent overseas bodies and for work, or sums, not normally supported by the councils.
Applications should normally be for sums between £250 and £5,000. Applicants are expected to request for matching funding from other sources, and the majority of grants are awarded on the basis of such funding being available.
