The (experimental) Condensed Matter Physics research area includes many interacting research groups and facilities within the department.
The Theoretical and Computational Physics research area comprises the Theoretical Physics Group as well as members of the Centre for Scientific Computing and Complexity Centre.
Medical and Bio-physics covers both theoretical and experimental research, interacting strongly with Systems Biology, MOAC and Life Sciences.
The Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics primarily investigates plasma physics as applied to the grand challenges of fusion power, space physics, solar physics and astrophysics.
The Astronomy and Astrophysics group work in areas such as binary star evolution, exo-planets, high speed astrophysics and gamma-ray bursts.
Elementary Particle Physics inlcudes research collaborations with LHCb, the Neutrino Factory and other major facilities, as well as in-house detector development.
