PLATO 2017 Travel to Warwick University

The University of Warwick campus is situated some 4-5km south-west of Coventry city centre, and well served by road, rail, and air networks. Please note that the University is NOT in the town of Warwick! Detailed travel directions to the university, including maps, can be found here.

Air

The nearest major airport is Birmingham International (code BHX). The main low cost airline serving this airport is Flybe, who connect to many UK and European destinations. Other airlines using Birmingham include Luthansa, Air France, and Easyjet.

Birmingham International has an integrated train station which has a frequent service to Coventry, taking 10-20 minutes. There are two train companies; Virgin trains are faster but slightly more expensive, and London Midland trains are slower but slightly cheaper (and often quieter). Make sure that your ticket is valid on the train you are travelling on.

From Coventry train station the University is a short taxi ride away, but it is as easy to get public transport - Travel Coventry Buses No. 11/12X/11U are available outside the train station, but note that they only take exact change.

It is also possible to use many of the major London airports, with London Luton (an Easyjet hub) being the closest. From Luton it is easiest to take a National Express coach to Coventry, or hire a car. Flights into London Heathrow or London Gatwick are also possible; for more information please contact the LOC.

Train

Coventry is well connected to London, with frequent trains to London Euston on Virgin Trains (takes 1-1.5hr) or London Midland (cheaper, but takes 1.5-2.5hr) services. Train ticket prices are hugely variable, and it's always best to try and book in advance, either directly through the train company or using Trainline.

If staying in Leamington Spa, Chiltern Railways run trains to both towns from London Marylebone (approx. 1.5hr).
