The 2nd workshop on the Mysteries of the Sun’s magnetic field

The workshop was funded by the Institute of Advanced Study, University of Warwick. Topics under discussion were the power suppression of solar p modes by magnetic flux tubes (Rekha Jain, Univ. of Sheffield), flows in the solar interior (Rachel Howe, Univ. of Birmingham), a mathematical description of gravity waves in a vertical magnetic field (Alex Hague, Univ. of Birmingham), fast magnetoacoustic wave trains (Valery Nakariakov, Univ. of Warwick), running penumbral waves (David Jess, Queen’s University Belfast), energy transport by kink waves in the solar atmosphere (Richard Morton, Northumbria University), UK participation in DKIST (Mihalis Mathioudakis, Queen’s University Belfast), decay-less oscillations in multi-thermal loops (Giuseppe Nistico, Univ. of Warwick), magnetic reconnection (Jan Graf von der Pahlen, Queen Mary University London), and transverse wave motions in solar polar plumes (Jonathan Thurgood, Northumbria University). Members of the community attended from various institutes around the UK and the formal talks were interspersed with some lively and interesting discussions.
