Zachary Laker

Background

I completed my BSc Physics degree at University College London in 2014 and then moved to Warwick to begin my PhD, studying under the supervision of Dr Neil Wilson within the Microscopy Group.

Research Interests

- Electron Microscopy (SEM, TEM, HR-TEM)

- Near-Field Scanning Probe Microscopy (STM, STS, AFM)

- Deposition, synthesis, adaptation and use of 2D materials such as graphene and h-BN

Current Research

Microscopy Group, University of Warwick

The primary aim of my research is to demonstrate Angstrom resolution imaging of light element, beam sensitive (soft), molecular materials by electron microscopy and correlate them directly to scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) studies of the same system. The core techniques utilised with such research are high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), scanning tunneling electron microscopy (STM), molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and the synthesis, adaptation and use of graphene. My research brings together techniques developed in surface science, the high resolution analytical TEM community and structural biology.
