Dr. Rachel Edwards

I am part of the Ultrasound Group in Physics, and I am also Associate Academic Director of the Warwick Institute of Engagement. I research different applications of ultrasound (see below!). I really enjoy doing outreach and public engagement - please email if you want to discuss events, or you can check out the Physics outreach webpages and contact Ally directly for schools visits. If you are a student and would like to be involved, please get in touch.

Research interests:

Noncontact generation and detection of ultrasound, using lasers and electromagnetic acoustic transducers. Modelling of ultrasound using PZFlex. Non-destructive testing.

Cryogenic ultrasonic measurements of single crystals, looking at phase transitions and changes in the elastic constants, attenuation and efficiency of generation.

Adaptive musical instruments, and making performances accessible.

See the group webpage for more details of the research and funding.

Teaching:

I lecture PX385, Condensed Matter Physics. The moodle page is available at the link. I am helping with the 2nd year electronics workshop this year.

I am happy to discuss potential final year projects in NDT or low temperature ultrasound, and URSS summer research projects (including public engagement projects).
