    Outline of work:

My PhD focuses on the interactions between emotion and attentional breadth, in particular how affective states can narrow or broaden an individual’s attentional state. Past research has suggested that positive emotions broaden attention and negative emotions narrow attention. My thesis will challenge this one-dimensional view and explore overlooked factors that may also mediate the relationship between cognition and emotion. One factor I am particularly interested in investigating is motivational intensity, that is the urge to act towards or away from an object, and how this may have long-lasting effects on attentional processing.
