Entry Requirements

The course is intended for students with a strong academic background in Psychology with an interest in further research.

Admission to the course will be considered if the following degree requirements and further requirements are fulfilled:

1. Degree requirements:

  • A degree in Psychology with a good Second Class Upper Division Honours (2.1) or equivalent will normally be required.
  • If a joint degree is offered, 2.1 level performance will be required on the Psychology component.
  • Other subjects will be considered if directly relevant to the proposed research plan.
  • For students with undergraduate qualifications from a country other than the UK, our International Office's equivalency guidance for other qualifications will normally be used; for US degrees, this is 3.3 overall cumulative GPA and 3.5 subject-specific GPA (for Psychology).

2. Further requirements:

  • Applicants must detail their placement and project interests in their personal statement. We can only offer a place on the course if the department can provide appropriate academic supervision for these interests - interests that fall outside the academic remit of our staff cannot be appropriately supported and therefore preclude admission (see How to Apply).
  • Students who do not have a history of studying in English will also require English language qualifications (university criteria; Psychology is a Band B department).
  • Selection for entry will be a two-stage process. In the first stage, your application form will be reviewed by the Course Director. If your application meets the requirements listed above, you will then be invited to attend an online interview at Warwick.

Please note:

The MSc Psychological Research is not a conversion degree, and does not offer a general grounding in Psychology. Only if you have a specific idea of what research your existing experience would allow you to conduct on the course would your application as a student without at least a minor in Psychology be viable.

The BPS offers a list of suitable postgraduate conversion courses for those without a Bachelor's degree in Psychology.
