Undergraduate degrees » Mathematics and Statistics

Mathematics and Statistics is a single honours degree course (3 or 4 years) designed for mathematically able students who have an interest in solving practical problems such as arise in modern science, business, government, etc.

There are excellent employment opportunities for statisticians in many areas of commerce and industry, accountancy and finance, teaching and research, computing and information technology. In particular, there is continuing high demand for the special skills of graduates who are strong in mathematics and have a sound understanding of statistical methods.

The Mathematics and Statistics degrees provide a thorough grounding in both theoretical and practical aspects of modern statistics. These are well-established Integrated Single Honours courses, leading to an extremely wide variety of careers. Two programmes are available:

    • three-year BSc/MathStat, UCAS code GG13
    • four-year integrated masters, MMathStat, UCAS code GGC3

Application should be made to either GG13 or GGC3 but not both. If in doubt, apply for the four-year GGC3 MMathStat because it is possible to transfer to the three-year BSc at the end of the second year.
