The Risk Initiative and Statistical Consultancy Unit (RISCU) is a Research Centre within the Department of Statistics at the University of Warwick. The Unit provides statistical services to a wide range of clients from industry, environment, horticulture, commerce and the public sector on a commercial basis (Examples), as well as providing a resource (and a link into the Department) for the wider academic community at Warwick.

Advice and Support Available
The aim of RISCU is to provide help and guidance on all statistical matters, including sampling and experimental design, statistical analysis of all forms of data, modelling, use of statistical packages (though see IT Services) and data display. As part of the Statistics Department RISCU can provide access to the latest developments in statistical research (CRiSM) and links to individual research staff within Statistics.

The consultancy service is not confined to routine statistical advice – indeed, our aim is to move beyond routine analysis and provide access to modern statistical methods and ideas that can enhance the projects of clients and add considerable value to the information that they hold. We encourage long term collaborative links with clients, both outside the University and from research groups in other departments within the University.

Supporting staff outside Statistics
RISCU proposes to provide a forum for staff from other Departments with an interest in statistics. It is hoped that informal meetings will take place once a term, with an opportunity for staff to meet, swap interests, learn what is new and meet some of the Statistics staff. We also plan to develop an occasional seminar series for more applied statistics. Please keep an eye on insight for dates, but let one of the RISCU staff know if you wish to go onto the mailing list.
