A wide ranging view of the economic importance of innovation drawing on recent UK and international evidence.
This will cover company performance, characteristics of innovative companies,
the role of R&D as one element of innovation, and current UK Government policy.
Questions for discussion will include:
does the best technology win?,
is the Government's ambition of raising UK R&D invest from currently 1.9% of GDP to 2.5% by 2014 realistic?
do the most successful business models exclude manufacturing?
how long will low labour cost advantages of emerging economies last?

This joint project between the Electrical and E-Business teams within PARD, aims to demonstrate the use of Bayesian networks within the automotive domain for the diagnostics of electrical systems. This is being done through a pilot trial utilising wireless connectivity to allow transmission of data between dealers and the OEM for the adaptation of the Bayesian networks.
