Over the past 25 years the scope and pace of technological change has continued to exceed forecasts and break new barriers on a regular basis.  Organisations today operate in a highly competitive international environment and the need to innovate and change continuously is essential for survival and long term success.  Universities and research activities are not immune from these pressures, but many institutions have not changed radically during this period.
