Alumni Profile
Manager of Global Payment & Cash Management, HSBC Taiwan My name is Wayne Shiao, WMG MSc PPM Post Graduate,2005 I have worked for HSBC Taiwan Global Payment & Cash Management department as an implementation manager for almost three years. HSBC Global Payments and Cash Management provides customized domestic, regional and global cash management solutions to different size companies throughout the world. Our team members are around the globe. As an implementation manager, we have to make good use of Project Management skills to work with the customer. Basically, it is a Client Management task rather than a technical position. Before entering Warwick, I was working in consultant team of a software company, which found by a team of former CitiBank members. After returning from Warwick, luckily enough, I was introduced to HSBC by former colleague. This position needs well-organized project management skills. All in all , these skills could make connection between my previous consulting job and my new learnt project management skill from Warwick. To enter a foreign bank in Taiwan is not that hard for most of Warwick Graduates who has related working experience. The key factor is how you survive and keep the career path in good shape. Like some old clichés successful factors:
I never forgot the day I passed my probation in Hong Kong. The regional head praised and pat me on my shoulder, then said “Good job! I really like your presentation”. The good result origininated from my study and work during the probation. After for a while, I started to visit my customer and provide professional services. Other than Cash Management solutions, I still can provide related business, marketing and IT advice to the customers. Those skills are not job related knowledge, however, you may gain trust and accumulate relationship from the customers. I learnt some of those knowledge from Warwick. To sum up, WMG provides plenty of practical industry knowledge. Project management courses let me managed multi-project in proper ways. Some interpersonal communication course or case studies reveals the real life of human factors. Project finance course let me have the concept to calculate and tracking the ROE for my current customer. I would like to recall those key successful factors I mentioned to those who are interested in Warwick life. If you do not have a multi-background or working experience, try to be humble and maintain your good attitude. Keep up the good work and learn as much as you can during this period. Last but not least, study abroad may be a marvelous experience during your lifetime. Just remember the holy grail of studying aboard: ”work hard, and play harder”. Hope for every success in your life.
