WMG Takes a Place in Coventry's Esteemed Transport History

Coventry Motor Museum

WMG is thrilled to be part of the Pioneering the Future exhibition at the newly re-launched Coventry Transport Museum.

The Museum re-opened in June after a £9.5million face-lift. WMG is showcasing its innovative research into the pursuit of smarter, lighter, greener transport. A big challenge for transport manufacturers is how to make vehicles more sustainable for the future. As leaders in innovation for over 35 years WMG collaborates on projects with manufacturers such as Jaguar Land Rover to create pioneering products which also meet strict weight regulations whilst satisfying customer demand for increased performance of vehicles.

On display in WMG’s Pioneering the Future exhibit are 3D printed valves, a first generation hybrid electric battery, and a Jaguar Land Rover lightweight aluminium self-pierced riveted body structure, as well as interactive weight testing materials including composites, steel and aluminium.

Professor Richard Dashwood said:

We are delighted to be a part of the relaunched museum. WMG has been part of the Coventry automotive industry for the last 35 years and are perfectly placed to support this vital and thriving sector as we move into an exciting new era of intelligent low carbon mobility. We look forward to working with the next generation of automotive engineers that this museum will inevitably inspire."

Work began on the multi-million pound redevelopment in April 2014. The Museum now features 14 exhibitions that tell the story of the last 150 years of Coventry’s transport history, and the rise and fall of its motor and cycle industries. In this time, around 475 bicycle and tricycle makers, 161 car manufacturers and 116 motorcycle manufacturers have operated in the city, touching the lives of millions of people.

Today, Coventry Transport Museum, which is also home to the largest collection of British road transport in the world, tells the remarkable story of the city, its inhabitants and their phenomenal achievements from the very first bicycles to world record-breaking cars.
