WMG welcomes the Science and Technology Committee (Commons)

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya and the Science and Technology Committee (Commons)Professor Lord Bhattacharyya has been pleased to welcome the Science and Technology Committee to WMG.

WMG were hosting the committee, which is chaired by Andrew Miller, MP and as part of their visit they took part in a round table discussion on the commercialisation of research with Professor Lord Bhattacharyya and senior members of WMG. They were also interested to understand the diverse research undertaken by WMG. Through the discussions they had the opportunity to discuss the quality and impact of research and the approach WMG takes to collaboration with industry.

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya said “I was proud to show the committee the outstanding work that is undertaken here at WMG, which has an impact for the companies that we collaborate with. I feel it’s extremely important that parliamentarians get out and about so they can see first-hand the kind of research that is being undertaken. “

Dr Alex Attridge and Andrew Miller, MPThe Committee had the opportunity to take a tour of WMG facilities, led by Professor Richard Dashwood they visited the Visualisation, Product Evaluation Technologies and Additive Layer Manufacturing R&D teams in the International Manufacturing Centre and the International Digital Laboratory. Through meeting academic staff the Committee were able to discover the breadth of our multi-disciplinary capabilities and the wide range of sectors the Group works with.

I’m always fascinated to come to see the research first-hand, especially the stretch from automotive into healthcare and the things that matter to each and every one of us. Professor Lord Bhattacharyya is a highly respected and is an excellent advocate for manufacturing, which is so important to our economic recovery.”
